It is also relatively costly when compared to other types of IP applications. This complexity is compounded by the fact that no worldwide patent exists and the estimated patent application success rate is only in the 50%-60% range.

Dr Jie Xiao
Dr Jie Xiao is a Patent Examiner at IPOS International for over eight years, specializing in biotechnology and medical devices.
She holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. She has conducted postdoctoral research in Oxford University and University College London. She has authored 20+ peer-reviewed journal papers and conference proceedings/abstracts, 11 of which are first-authored.
