Recognised by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as one of the leading Intellectual Property (IP) training institutes in the world, IPOS International Academy was invited to share its 20 years of IP journey with the WIPO Intellectual Property Training Institutions (IPTIs) on 18 April 2023.

The team imparted some of the best practices, teaching methods, and training curricula that can help effectively build IP skills for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It provided the IPTIs with a rich source of practical knowledge and real-world examples that can enrich IP education and training programmes. Participants learned from the Academy's challenges faced, lessons learned, and successes achieved. This was followed by an engaging open dialogue session where the team addressed many questions from the audience.

Facilitated by the WIPO Academy and the WIPO Singapore Office, this session aimed to strengthen networking and cooperation between IPOS International and the IPTIs. Turnout was great with close to 80 participants benefitting from this sharing session.

Background on WIPO IPTIs

The WIPO Academy helps member states set up IPTIs, to meet their local IP training and skills-building needs in a scalable and cost-effective way.

Through the IPTIs, WIPO Academy supports member states in setting up their training centres. This is achieved by:

• Equipping national or regional trainers with the teaching and technical skills needed to deliver programmes targeted to key audiences such as SMEs, women and the youth

• Designing a strategic business plan for the centres’ operation

• Guiding partners on the design and delivery of impactful training programnes in innovative formats

• Offering IP resources and materials for setting-up IP libraries

• Helping them build an online presence

Going forward, IPOS International Academy will continue to partner with various IP organisations for workshops, seminars, training, and knowledge-sharing sessions. This is part of our long-term goal to promote a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and improvement within the IP community.
