Back for its 12th edition, the WIPO-IPOS IP for Innovation Awards celebrates Singapore enterprises that have achieved outstanding growth through their successful use of IA and IP. Since its inception in 2013, 48 organisations have been conferred this pre-eminent accolade.

This year, we seek to recognise IP champions who have leveraged the effective use of IP to innovate, transform, and grow their business. If you are one of them, nominate your organisation and get the recognition you deserve as an IP champion and shine on the global stage at the Awards!

• Business entity with at least 30% Singapore shareholdings OR
• Business entity with HQ in Singapore

JUDGING CRITERIA

• Organisation Profile and Intangible Assets / Intellectual Property portfolio (20%)
• Business Strategy and Commercialisation effort leveraging IA/IP (40%)
• Impact to stakeholders, industry and/or society (40%)

Shortlisted finalists will need to prepare a ten-minute presentation in person at the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) on 5th July 2024, Friday.
 

JUDGING PANEL

Mr Clarence Tan, Founder and Director, Origgin Ventures Pte Ltd

• Former Director of SCloud Pte Ltd, a cloud service provider, and a joint venture with UCLOUD Technologies (SHA: 688158)
• Founder and CEO of Pinnz, an Internet venture valued at S$450M in 2000 with over S$30M in annual revenue
• Founder of GlobalRoam Group (acq. 2018), providing integrated communications technology

Mr Eric Gan, Associate Professor and Head, IP and Innovation Management Programme, SUSS

Associate Professor Eric Gan Kok Wah serves as the Head of the IP and Innovation Management Programme at the SUSS School of Business, where he oversees graduate IP programmes, including the Master of IP and Innovation Management (IP Business) in collaboration with WIPO.

Previously, as Director (Capability Development) at IPOS, he successfully led a team to plan and implement initiatives to enhance IP manpower capability as part of the Singapore IP Hub Master Plan.

Among these was the establishment of the IP Competency Framework, a strategic guide for manpower development that maps the skills and competencies needed by IP professionals & practitioners and suggests pathways to close these gaps, as well as administration of the patent agent regime in Singapore and oversight of the Singapore Patent Agents Qualifying Examination.

He also acted as a subject matter expert in the creation of the national IP Skills Framework, jointly developed by SkillsFuture Singapore, Workforce Singapore, and IPOS, which was launched in 2019.

Mrs Kim Faulkner, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Activiste Pte Ltd

Kim Faulkner has over 40 years of branding, marketing and design experience in Asia and has lectured and written extensively on the subject of branding, strategy development, marketing and design across the region.

As the founder and CEO of Activiste, Kim continues to be actively involved in most of its transformation and branding projects spanning institutional, private and public sector work across the region.

Previously, Kim was one of the founding partners, CEO and Chairman of Interbrand’s office in Singapore. She served as Managing Director for 13 years before being appointed as its Chairman overseeing the Group’s activities and strategic interests in SE Asia and Greater China, as well as the work of the Interbrand Foundation here. During her tenure, she helped set up offices and affiliate relationships for the group in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and China.

She was also a board member of the Interbrand Group and on the Group Steering Committee overseeing the strategic initiatives of the group’s 36 offices.

Kim has served as a board member on numerous government and educational board institutions, including Spring Singapore; the Design Singapore Council, under the Ministry for Communication and the Arts; and a board director of International Enterprise Singapore from 2002-2003 during its transformation from the Singapore Trade Development Board to IE Singapore; the advisory board of Temasek School of Design, as well as an Ex-Co member of the Action Community for Entrepreneurship.

 

Mr Mark Lim, Director and Chief Legal Counsel, IPOS

Mark is a Director and Chief Legal Counsel at IPOS, where he heads the Hearings & Mediation Department. He also leads a team at IPOS which looks into how to position Singapore as a preferred venue for the resolution of IP and technology disputes.

He has almost 30 years of experience in IP law. Prior to joining IPOS in 2010, Mark was a lawyer in private practice for 15 years. His work encompasses all areas of IP law. He also has experience in international arbitration proceedings.

He is an Adjunct Professor at the NUS Faculty of Law, where he co-teaches a module on IP Arbitration. He has published many articles in both local and international law journals. He is a co-author of the chapter on Copyright in Halsbury's Laws of Singapore: Volume 13(3) - Intellectual property (2007 & 2018 Reissue, Lexis-Nexis, Singapore).

At IPOS International/ IP Academy (a wholly-owned subsidiary of IPOS), Mark oversees the development and curation of training programmes in the area of IP law for the legal community and IP professionals, as well as the public sector in Singapore.

Mr Soh Leng Wan, Assistant Managing Director, Enterprise Singapore 

Soh Leng Wan is the Assistant Managing Director of Enterprise Singapore, overseeing the growth of Singapore companies in the Manufacturing & Engineering industries. 

Prior to this, Leng Wan spent seven years in the Ministry of Trade and Industry. As Senior Director (Industry Division) between 2017 and 2021, he led this team to formulate policies and initiatives to ensure the competitiveness of the Singapore economy as well as the vibrancy of Singapore as a global city and tourism destination.

Between 2006 and 2009, he was Deputy Director (Resource Division) where he led his team to develop manpower initiatives to support enterprises to meet their labour and talent needs. Between 2012 and 2017, Leng Wan was Senior Director (Strategic Planning) in the Ministry of National Development in charge of reviewing Singapore’s land use plans and development strategies. 

Leng Wan had also served in various portfolios dealing with public policy formulation in the Ministry of Defence and the then-Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.
