3D printing (3DP) in the built environment (BE) has gained worldwide interest in the last decade. Although it is a nascent field with about 2,000 related inventions published in 2012-2021, the high compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22% in the last five years suggests it is rapidly emerging.
Despite the increase in real-life demonstrations of 3D printed buildings and architecture, key technical challenges and bottlenecks must be addressed before the technology can be adopted widely in the construction industry.
