By IPOS International

In the last decade, global interest in Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) technologies within the built environment (BE) has increased significantly. With only 2,200 related inventions published in 2013-2022, CCUS technologies for BE are considered in their early stages. However, the potential for these technologies to deliver substantial climate benefits by sequestering CO2 in building materials has driven a notable surge in interest over the past five years, reflected in a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.6%.

While a few initial solutions have successfully entered the market, most areas remain in the development phase. Ongoing R&D, supported by government initiatives and the establishment of favourable market conditions, along with increasing interest from industry stakeholders in transitioning to sustainable materials, is expected to play a crucial role in driving technological advancements. This collective effort is anticipated to lead to widespread market adoption.
